Moving Day

Thu 10/5

We loaded up in a leisurely fashion and headed to Altopascio, a small town between Lucca and Florence.
Altopascio town gate

We were too early to check in so we went into town and had lunch followed by a gelato then checked into our new apartment. It's very nice and very comfortable.

We're no longer in the country but it's in a very quiet area. Of course, we had to make another grocery run and then unpacked and had a little dinner at home of cheese, bread, and meat.

Fri 10/6

We drove to Lucca and parked outside the wall. We walked and walked and walked!! I was on a della Robbia quest and we went to two different churches to see their della Robbia's.

One church is the Basilica of San Frediano which has a beautiful mosaic on the facade of the church.

Mainly we wandered and enjoyed the town. After a few hours, we were ready for a bite to eat and got a slice of pizza then made our way home. Our hosts had given us a bottle of prosecco and a beautiful almond torte on our arrival so we had a slice of torte and a glass of prosecco then a nice nap! We went to dinner in Monte Carlo, a tiny town just a few minutes from the apartment. The town in on the top of a hill and has beautiful views.

Sunset from Monte Carlo
We had dinner in a small osteria and I tried my first vin santo and cantucci for dessert.
