Sun 10/1
It was a gray and dreary Sun AM so what does one do when in Italy.....go to the grocery store of course. We made a bit of lunch then drove to San Gimignano and wandered the streets a bit enjoying the views.

The tourists below are the entertainment

Some of the towers that make the town famous.

A main piazza

Line in front of a store that claims to have the "best gelato in Italy." Amazingly, I resisted!
We also went to a museum of ancient pharmacy with a contemporary art museum and a photo show of Henri Cartier-Bresson. Unfortunately, we went to the pharmacy museum without realizing the other exhibits were in the same place so after our street viewing we decided to visit the other exhibits, looked all up and down the street where there were signs for the museum and finally realized it was all in the same building. The modern art was just OK but the photographs were really excellent. All were black and white and took place in the 1930's and 1940's. Many were very moving photos, some during the war but others just random street scenes that were filled with emotion.
A major event occurred while leaving the parking lot. I was driving and couldn't reach the machine to put in our ticket so Dick got out to do it and I went through the gate in the car. I was watching him in the rear view mirror as he walked to the car. The gate came down on his head knocking him to the ground and breaking the gate! He got up immediately and as another tourist rushed over to help him, Dick handed him the gate which had completely broken off! He scraped his arm and had a bit of a knot on his head but was otherwise not hurt.
Came home after that rather scary event and had a dinner of leftover pasta and salad. The parking lot event has become very funny in retrospect! I only wish I had a video!
