We happily sorted the laundry, loaded the spiffy washer, turned it on and....nothing happened! We called our landlord and he discovered that the water wasn't turned on. Problem solved except....now that the water was turned on, the hose leaked causing a minor flood. Called the landlord who was able to slow it to a manageable small drip and we began to work our way through 3 loads of laundry, hanging it in the sunshine like real Italians.
We deserved a nice lunch for our labor so we went into Altopascio to a nice osteria where I bravely ordered baccala' a dish that I have studiously avoided because it sounds disgusting. It was DELICIOUS!! It was a nice, thick filet of flaky white fish baked with a light bread crumb coating and wasn't fishy or strong tasting at all. Dick had a filled ravioli like pasta with the local meat sauce.

| Baccala' is often served with chickpeas. There is a chickpea puree under the fish, some apple with balsamic and a roasted tomato on the side. |
The bread was the most delicious bread I have ever had in Italy and that's saying something!! The owner said it was the typical local bread. It looked like most Italian bread but was just especially fabulous.
