10/17
Today we took a bus to Cadillac where we toured the town and saw the chateau Cadillac which is not open to the public. The town is a pretty and prosperous town in the Sauterne appellation.
After meandering around the town, we got back on the bus to go to Chateau de Rayne Vigneau for a tasting. We tasted 3 wines, a sauvignon blanc, a semi sweet of semillon and sauvignon and then a sauterne. All were really excellent. I bought a bottle of sauvignon for us to have at dinner and a bottle of sauterne to bring home.
The afternoon was spent sailing toward Bourg. There was a cooking demonstration of macaron which I attended in hopes of getting a recipe for the delicious macarons I had in St. Emilion but the chef told us that it's a secret recipe known only to St. Emilion and he was demonstrating the more typical French macarons. There were samples which made me very happy. There was also a tour of the ship kitchen which was interesting to see and to try and imagine preparing food for 170 three times a day.
At cocktail time there was a special cocktail party for previous Viking travelers that included a toast with a glass of aquavit for everyone. Aquavit tastes like pure alcohol for me so I didn't drink it but Dick and Ted tossed it down with no apparent problem.
After dinner there was a game night with a game that involved groups teaming up to provide an answer to a question that had no specific right answer so the winner was the one that the most people chose. There were 13 silly questions like: "name something you use only once." Silly but fun.
