We drove to the town of Vinci where Leonardo da Vinci was born. There is a museum that we visited that has prototypes of many of his inventions.
Part of the museum is housed in a palace with great views over the valley.
We had lunch in a local restaurant before leaving then came back to Altopascio for a gelato before another brief grocery run then home.
An interesting observation along the autostrada outside the town of Pistoia (which we drove along on our way to Vinci) is there are many, many nurseries for trees. An impossibly large number of nurseries with an impossibly huge number of different types of trees and they are lined up one after another on this particular stretch of highway. Many of the trees are quite large and it's difficult to imagine how they manage to move them not to mention trying to imagine the cost. There was even a "nursery park" that we passed that had lots of topiaries and paths through the area for visitors.
